Students Get Involved in Preserving Local History

The Lower Pottsgrove Historical Society welcomed local students to the Sanatoga Union Sunday School as part of a Student Service Project led by Student Advisor Lisa Smoyer.

The partnership was created to give students meaningful opportunities to help preserve Lower Pottsgrove’s history while learning more about their community. Students received an introduction to local history and learned about the many ways volunteers support the Historical Society.

Potential projects included helping archive historical artifacts, maintaining the grounds around the Veterans War Memorial, and assisting with the Annual Strawberry Festival. Festival volunteers help with setup, tables and chairs, baked goods, flower sales, raffle baskets, and other activities.

During their visit, students especially enjoyed learning about the former Sanatoga Speedway and exploring the museum’s collection of old school yearbooks.

Thank you to Second Vice President Charles Nippert and Secretary Carolyn Nippert for leading this project. We enjoyed welcoming the students and look forward to involving more young residents in preserving our community’s heritage.
